Motorcycle For Sale

Any advertisement displaying a Motorcycle For Sale attracts the trendy. But buying a bike is no pushover.  A cursory visual inspection gets one nowhere in assessing its value or its condition. A person needs to do an exhaustive check.

Many prospective buyers look for guidelines to help them make an assessment of a motorcycle for sale.  But it is to be remembered that that are no hard and fast rule in these matters.  An experienced dealer or buyer of motorcycles has his own judgment up his sleeve. In addition a buyer may have his own custom requirements that are unique in nature.

A broad checklist to inspect a bike for sale generally consists of the following.

  • General appearance - A bike that appears neat and clean has a good chance that its body is in order. It should be remembered that defective components can always be replaced, but it is easier said than done to set right a defective body that is worn out by dent or corrosion.
  • Engine and carburetor - A test ride helps in evaluating whether the motorcycle has a good pick up and a smooth motion. A cursory inspection can also show leaks in the carburetor and engine.
  • Tires - Look for wear and tear. If the tires are new it is a great add-on in value to the bike. On the other hand, worn out tires may indicate that you may need to spend more money soon.
  • Battery and electrics - It needs no mention that a battery should be in good condition. A standard check of the battery plates and the specific gravity of the battery acid is a minimum. A good battery will exhibit a quick start to the engine. It also makes sense to test all lights and switches to make sure the electrics are in order. Other things that may be checked are spark plugs, alternator, starters, and wires.
  • Clutch - This is a very important element of a bike. An experienced rider with a feel of the lever effort can assess whether the clutch is in order.
  • Suspension - The buffer and suspension play an important role in providing comfort to the rider. The forks can be inspected for seal leaks.
  • Wheels - Wheels need to be checked for bends and cracks.
  • Gas Tank - It is good to ensure that the gas in the tank is not old. It is prudent to get the gas replaced anyway.
  • Titles - It is vital that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the bike should match the VIN on the motorcycle title. Any scratches on the VIN are a cause for concern. The bike for sale could be a stolen one.

This list is by no means exhaustive. If the Motorcycle For Sale belongs to a known seller and if the bike is single hand driven, one can be reasonably certain about the motorcycle's credentials. Buying a used motorcycle may appear to be a gamble, but a prudent inspection can greatly reduce the risks.
